Are you passionate about people and processes? A creative problem solver? A major in management can help you develop your leadership skills so you will inspire and motivate workplace teams.
This is a very popular major at CNU and the largest
in The Luter College of Business & Leadership. It offers the greatest
flexibility and broadest application of all the business
majors, incorporating all the other disciplines in a liberal
learning environment. This interdisciplinary program
includes accounting, finance, human resources, economics,
law, operations, marketing, logistics and information
technology.
In this major, you will learn to use critical thinking
and analytical skills to make decisions and take action
when facing a novel, complex problem. You will learn to
lead, plan and organize; express your ideas clearly; and
embrace diversity in a changing workforce.
Through the management curriculum, you will
cultivate people skills to help navigate the global world
you will encounter. An emphasis on ethical standards is
an integral part of every course.
Our graduates are in demand by top-tier companies
for positions in human resources, consulting, operations
planning, supply chain management, purchasing,
logistics, contract management and as management
trainees. With a major in management, students may
become entrepreneurs or pursue advanced business
education in graduate school.
At The Luter College of Business & Leadership, a management
education is not all in the classroom – students learn by
doing here. Students work in teams to manage virtual
companies using on-line simulation, applying business
principles to make decisions about a future course of
action.
The capstone course gives students the unique
opportunity to learn field-based consulting in our award-winning
Small Business Institute. The Small Business
Institute Director’s Association has recognized the
excellence of CNU student projects for the past decade. CNU teams won first place in the nation for undergraduate
cases in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007, and our SBI™
program received the prestigious Showcase Award for its
outstanding business consulting class.
Students may join a number of student chapters of
business organizations, including the Society for Human
Resource Management and the Contract Management
Association.
The management faculty, with a notable background
of both academic and professional experience, mentors
students and helps them transition into careers. Top
executives from local business are recruited as frequent
speakers. Professors offer many opportunities to work
side-by-side with them on research projects and to complete
internships at leading Hampton Roads companies.
If a career at the top is what you seek, CNU’s
management program will boost you up the ladder!
