Christopher Newport University is pleased to announce that Dr. David L. Cleeton, Associate Provost and Professor of Economics at Oberlin College, has agreed to serve as the Dean of the Luter College of Business and Leadership, effective July 1, 2008.

“I am very pleased to have been given the opportunity to help lead the Luter College of Business and Leadership during an exciting and innovative period of the University’s development,” said Dr. Cleeton.  “In particular I look forward to working with and building the faculty in order to strengthen the College’s multi-faceted role within the University and the broader community.”

Dr. Cleeton will report directly to the CNU Provost, Dr. Mark Padilla.  Dr. Padilla states, "Dr. Cleeton is an outstanding candidate from a national search for this important position of academic leadership.  I am confident that he will serve our academic and broader communities in a distinguished fashion, and continue the trajectory of excellence in Luter College."

Professor Cleeton has held visiting professorships at a number of universities including the University of Wisconsin-Madison; University of Strasbourg, France; and Middle East Technical University, Turkey.  In 2002, he served as Fulbright Professor of EU-U.S. Relations at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.  His most recent publication is the textbook Financial Economics (Prentice-Hall, 2nd edition) coauthored with Zvi Bodie, professor of management at Boston University, and Robert C.
