Raymond G. Johnson retired from the DuPont Co. as Vice President of Manufacturing for all DuPont Fibers businesses. Currently Vice-Chair of the Citadel School of Business Advisory Board, he is also Founder and past Chairman of the school’s Business Mentors Association, for which he has been named Chairman Emeritus.

A graduate of the Citadel, Johnson majored in chemistry and minored in math, finished in the top 10 percent of his class, and was a Distinguished Military Student and a Captain on the Regimental Staff. Following graduation he served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Security Agency for two years (in Taiwan) and accepted a position with DuPont upon returning to the U.S.

Johnson worked in five locations (two in Virginia) prior to being assigned as Director of Fibers Manufacturing in Europe (Geneva) for three years, responsible for sites in Ireland, Holland, Germany and Luxemburg. Back in the United States, he served in several capacities, ending his career as a Vice President. Johnson counts being affiliated with KEVLAR commercialization as a career highlight and consulted for DuPont for a few years after he retired and returned home to Charleston, South Carolina.

His other involvements have included:

  • President — Seabrook Island Property Owners Association
  • Board Member — Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Storm Eye Institute, the Country Club of Charleston, Camp St. Christopher, and Happy Days and Special Times (camp for children with cancer)

In 2003 Johnson received membership in Phi Kappa Phi for his contributions to the Citadel and in 2006 was inducted into the Citadel’s School of Business Hall of Fame as a Leader of Principle.
