N. Scott Millar is the Director of Human Resources for Canon Virginia, Inc., Canon’s largest manufacturing, engineering and technical support center in North & South America.  In this capacity he oversees multiple Human Resource and Administration Group functions including Workforce Staffing & Development, Compensation & Benefits, Communications & Administration Support, Safety & Occupational Health and Environmental Management.   Scott joined the Canon Virginia team in 1992.  

Previously, Scott worked in the public sector as a Human Resource Analyst for the City of Newport News, primarily supporting the Fire, Emergency Medical Service and Police departments.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Governmental Administration with a concentration in Public Management and a minor in History from Christopher Newport University in 1985.  He holds a Certificate in Wage and Hour Studies from Cornell University and has completed graduate studies at Old Dominion University.  In addition, Scott has achieved the designations of Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Society of Human Resource Management and Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) from the American Compensation Association. 

Scott is a certified program leader and trainer in performance management systems.  He co-led a team that developed a model performance management system that received the Grand Prize Process Achievement Award from Kepner-Tregoe Inc, a global consulting firm specializing in strategic and organizational process management.   He has been invited to speak at national and regional human resource conferences, college and university programs and community forums.   

Scott is a member of the Executive Board of the Christopher Newport University Alumni Society and will serve as Alumni Society President for the 2008-2009 academic year.  He also represents the local business community on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Virginia Health Systems Agency, an organization that reviews certificates of public need for healthcare facilities throughout the region.  Scott has also served on the City of Newport News Physician Recruitment Task Force. 

Scott and his wife Muriel are both natives of the Virginia Peninsula and currently reside in Newport News.  He enjoys traveling, playing golf, supporting the performing arts and rooting for his favorite sports teams - the Christopher Newport Captains and the Washington Redskins.  He can usually be found tailgating with friends before each home football game.
