As Vice President of Cox Business Services, Michael (Mike) Braham provides the strategic vision and management direction for Cox Communications – Hampton Roads’ commercial telecommunications operation – the flagship operation among all Cox Communications commercial services operations nationwide. Responsible for all business-to-business sales and relationships, Mike joined Cox and the Hampton Roads community in 2005, bringing broad leadership background and perspective to his role.
A Northern Virginia native, Mike began his career serving as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, where he flew Harrier jets.
He transitioned to the private sector in 1991, leaving aviation for the telecommunications industry and Bell Atlantic. He spent five years with Bell Atlantic, ultimately as Director of Strategic Sales. There he was responsible for developing and managing sales tactics for the company’s high-end data solutions, including SONNET, ATM and Fast Packet services. He also founded Bell Atlantic CommGuard, an innovative business unit focused on developing and marketing disaster recovery and business continuity solutions. Later he moved to Genuity, an Internet service provider, where he served as Vice President, North American Channel Sales, and led a nationwide team of Telecom/Internet sales professionals.
After 9-11 Mike joined Marsh & McLennan’s Marsh Crisis Consulting as Chief Marketing Officer responsible for domestic and international marketing and sales of crisis management solutions. There he worked under Ambassador L. Paul Bremer whom President Bush appointed to Administrator of Iraq. Immediately prior to joining Cox, Mike was the president of Amsec International, an international security organization.
Mike attended George Mason University where he earned a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology. A Business Continuity expert, he is a Certified Business Continuity Planner (CBCP) and has served as Director of Ethics on the Association of Contingency Planners (ACP) National Board of Directors.
Mike is dedicated to his business customers and to the Hampton Roads community. Giving back to the latter, he promotes technology and positive youth experiences by serving as a board member for the Virginia air and Space Museum, the Hampton Roads Technology Council (HRTC) and Young Life, Chesapeake. Through his church and Young Life, he is active in Men’s Ministry and mentors young men and women in developing strong character values.
Described as devoted, honest and passionate, Mike lives in Chesapeake with his wife Lisa, their son and daughter. Still an adventurer and aviator at heart, Mike maintains his pilot wings and flies for fun in his spare time. When on the ground, he also enjoys motor and bicycling.
