Laura Barnes is a native of Richmond, Virginia and began her telephone career with C&P Telephone Company. Prior to divestiture (when the Bell System broke away from AT&T) in 1984, she was promoted and transferred to Northern Virginia and worked in the Information System organization at Bell Atlantic's headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. In 1986 Laura was transferred to Virginia Beach to the Logistics operation.

On April 1, 2004, Laura was promoted to Verizon's Area Manager and is responsible for government and external affairs for Eastern Virginia.

Laura is a graduate of St. Leo University with a BA in Human Resource Administration and a graduate of Troy State University with an MS in Human Resource Management. Laura is an Adjunct Professor at Averett University teaching in the business curriculum. She also holds a Notary Public License for the State of Virginia.

Laura was past President of Executive Women International and on numerous boards such as the Hampton Roads Economic Development Board, Greater Norfolk Corporation Board, VECTEC Advisory Board, Virginia Peninsula Chamber, New Horizon's Educational Foundation Board, Christopher Newport University Advisory Board for the Luter School of Business, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board, Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters Child Abuse Advisory Board, and An Achievable Dream Corporate Advisory Council.

Laura's passion is her job and when she has any free time she enjoys shopping, reading, walking, and enjoying life!
