Digby A. Solomon returned to the Virginia Peninsula in February 2007 after being named president, publisher and CEO of The Daily Press, Inc., which publishes the Daily Press, The Virginia Gazette and the Tidewater Review newspapers and operates several web sites in Hampton Roads.
Before returning to the Daily Press, where he had served two prior tours of duty, Mr. Solomon spent the last three years as president of Hoy, Tribune Publishing Company's Spanish-language newspaper, with editions in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Under his leadership, Hoy became the fastest growing Spanish language newspaper in the United States, reaching more than 1.5 million readers. Previously, he served as general manager of the Chicago Tribune's Internet business and director of electronic media at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Mr. Solomon spent eight years working at the Daily Press , where he began as a reporter and served stints as an assistant metro editor and business editor before being named director of new media, a role in which he launched the Daily Press ' Internet operations.
Mr. Solomon's background includes roles in television, and radio as well. For six years, he also worked as a Latin American correspondent for United Press International in South America and Puerto Rico.
His community involvement includes memberships on Greater Peninsula Now and the executive committee of the Hampton Roads Partnership.
A native of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, Mr. Solomon moved with his family to Arlington, Va., at the age of six and divided his childhood years between Virginia and Haiti, where his father served several tours of duty with the Inter-American Development Bank. He received degrees in journalism and political science from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
He and his wife, Kimberly, have two daughters and reside in James City County.
