Spring 2008 Calendar of Events >>>
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business announced its accreditation of Christopher Newport University's business programs on January 7, 2005. The business school worked toward this recognition for five years.
AACSB International is the premier accrediting body for business programs worldwide. Our Self-Evaluation
Report documents how we
meet and exceed AACSB's rigorous
standards. The peer review team commended CNU on the following strengths and practices:
- The support provided by the President, Provost and a strong, engaged Board of Advisors, which is critical to the progress made by the School.
- The strong faculty working as a team dedicated to achieving the University's and the School's visions and missions.
- The increasingly strong cohort of highly qualified and motivated students, which is a reflection of the University's and the School's selective recruiting and focused marketing.
- The School's evolving modern business curriculum that has been updated using direct and indirect measures of assessment, insights, inputs of the Board of Advisors, and best practices found at other schools and programs.
- The School's highly effective writing intensive program.
AACSB accreditation is an important external validation of the quality of our curriculum, faculty, and students. It means that we are accountable to our constituents, including the citizens of Virginia, for offering a degree with value and a relevant curriculum and for effective management of the program.
Our accreditation is especially meaningful at this time in Christopher Newport's history, because it endorses the less visible changes that have been taking place in the University -- those centered on the essential purpose of this institution, which is to prepare our students to become responsible leaders and productive citizens in their communities, the nation and the world.
